Club Racing Activities
Having fun, whilst pushing yourself to be your best!
Tuxford Clarion have been a racing club since it was founded (as well as social leisure riding club), with a fair number of our membership competing in races of different disciplines.
It’s easy to get into races, and there are different categories for you to start at and progress through the ranks as you improve.
Time Trials – the club runs our own local time trials throughout the summer:
- 11.3 mile time trials, from Tuxford to Sutton to High Marnham and back. On Wednesday evenings.
- 2-up team time trial, using the same course as the Weds TTs, just find a partner that you want to ride with.
- Hill Climb Championships, for a short, gravity challenged, hard effort on a local hill
You’ll need to be a member of a CTT registered cycling club to be allowed to race these time trials.
Some of our riders also take part in the many open time trials run around the country, from 10 miles to 24 hours, there’s a TT to suit your preference.
Hard Track – Velodrome Track Racing – action packed 45 deg wooden banking. One gear, no freewheeling, no brakes. Several of us race regularly at Derby Velodrome.
Grass Track – similar to hard track racing, but outdoors on a flat grass oval. Using a single speed track bike with cyclo-cross tyres for super challenging, but massive fun racing.
Road and Closed-circuit Racing – using a regular ‘road bike’ but racing in a bunch over a number of laps, from an hour of racing to 80 miles plus. Tactics, endurance, hill climbing and sprinting skills determine who gets over the line first.
For road and track racing, you’ll need to have a British Cycling membership and Racing License.
